Introduction
Capilla del Monte is a small-town northeast of the Cordoba region and is located by Sierras Chicas, a small mountain chain in north of Argentina. With around 12 000 inhabitants, it is layback town without hustle. It is a perfect place to relax and chill as well as do some hiking.
It is also one of the most “hippies” town in Argentina.

Getting there
The closest city is Cordoba. The best way to get from there to Capilla del Monte is by car or by bus. The bus terminal located near the city center of Cordoba offers daily departure with ERSA and SAMIENTO. The journey takes approx. 3 to 4h.

Getting around
The easiest way to get around Capilla del Monte would be by car. But as we didn’t rent any. We mainly walked from place to place, use one of the city bus or taxi.
There isn’t many city bus, they all depart from the main plaza where a timetable is located. We used it once from Cerro Uritorco base to town.
Taxi can be found at the bus terminal. We used them to get to our accommodation located out of town when we were lazy (costed us 110 pesos). They are all using taxi meters.
Things to do
Here are the things we did:
- Cerro Uritorco: trek the highest summit of the Sierras Chicas. See article here
- Los Terrones: beautiful mountain formation
- El Zapato & Lake El Cajon Dam: Viewpoint of the city and dam
- Hike Paso Del Indio: a small and beautiful trek
Things we didn’t do:
- Visit San Marcos Sierras, another hippy town.
We had planned on doing it, but unfortunately there was only one direct bus from ERSA at 10:30am, other departures are with a transfer at Cruz del Eje which is further than San Marcos Sierras. All returns are through Cruz del Eje. So it seems a bit complicated.
- Trek Cerro Las Gemelas
- Balneario La Toma
- Visit la Cumbre
