Introduction: 3 Weeks Itinerary in Indonesia

Indonesia and especially Bali is one of the top destinations is South East Asia. It has been seen on tons of sites and pictures on the internet. And even if most of the time, there is a big difference between online resources and reality, Indonesia is a destination that does not disappoint and hold to its reputation.

With beautiful rice terraces, wild jungles, breath-taking sunset, amazing scuba-diving site and so much more Indonesia is a place that must be visited.

It is a land for all type of travellers, families, solos, couples, friends… as well as for travellers that like nature, jungle, beach, new experience, culture, art, and nightlife.

For a first time in Indonesia, we will start with Nusa Penida, a secluded island, then follow with the amazing Bali and if the time allows it, the Gilis’.

Indonesia is made of lots of island, so for this 3 Weeks Itinerary in Indonesia, we will first fly to Denpasar in Bali and then take ferry to reach the various islands.3 Weeks itinerary in Indonesia will be intense as there are so much to see.

3 Weeks Itinerary in Indonesia day by day

Day 1: Arrive in Denpasar

Let’s start our 3 weeks itinerary in Indonesia. Fly to Denpasar international Airport. Once out take a ride to your accommodations. If you have time, you can hand around Denpasar a bit, if not simply rest for the next day.

Day 2: Ferry to Nusa Penida

Take an early (or not) ferry to Nusa Penida from Samur Port. Once in Nusa Penida, rent a scooter or ask your accommodation to pick you up from the port.

We stayed in Namaste Bungalows, and we truly had a blast! Even if the notations are not too great today and since the island really developed.

Day 3: Explore Angel’s Billabong & the Broken beach and Crystal Bay

In the morning, head to Broken Beach, an amazing little cove. Its name Broken Beach come from the archway that wraps around the bay allowing water to flow in and out from the ocean. Then Angel’s billabong, one magical but dangerous spot. A clear tide pool of water cascade into the ocean. The pool itself is really calm but the ocean there can become strong and violent.

End the day in Crystal Bay This secluded beach cover 200-metre stretch of black sand and hike its viewpoint.

Nusa penida angel's billabong

Day 4: Dive in Manta Bay and discover Kelingking Beach

Organise with your accommodation, an early trip to Manta’s point, a spot near the West coast of the island where you will be snorkling with Manta Rays. Then head back to Crystal bay for some more snorkelling. In the afternoon, head to   Kelingking Beach, an epic cliff shaped like a Tyrannosaurus Rex and is one of the island most visited spot.

Manta Ray Nusa pendia

Day 5: Scooter trip around the island

Ride on the island until the Teletubbies Hill a spot in central Nusa Penida where you can admire nature at work with breath-taking view toward the hilly land. Then head to Atuh Beach, one of Nusa Penida’s top beaches and on your way back stop at  Goa Giri Putri Temple a unique Hinduism temple located within a cave.

Day 6: Spare day on Nusa Penida

You never know what can happen in 3 weeks, and as we love Nusa Penida, we would recommend a spare day to enjoy it a bit more.

Atuh beach mountain view

Day 7: Ferry to Gili Air

The 1st week of this 3 weeks itinerary in Indonesia is finish. Take a ferry to Gili Air. It takes around 2h15 to transfer from one island to the others. In the afternoon walk around Gili Air, the island is quite small so let’s circle it.

Gili Air travel guide

Day 8: Open Water Course

Time to learn Scuba diving. Gili Air is one of the best places on earth to do it. As well as one of the cheapest. Tons of travellers go there to do it. The course is not that intense, today you will just have to watch one video.

Day 9: Open Water Course

At 9am, start a first pool session to learn the basic, followed by some Theory review. In the afternoon, time to dive in the ocean, with a first dive from 1 to 12m depth.

Day 10: Open Water Course

8:30am, another pool session, with some more theory and this time with an exam at the end. In the afternoon, another open water dive.

Day 11: Open Water Course

3rd and last day, with this time 2 more dives. One at 8am and another one in the afternoon. In the end celebration your certificate!

Pachamama Gili Air wraps

Day 12: Chill on Gili Air

Time to relax at your accommodations and enjoy the day around the tiny island. If you feel like it, you could also take a boat to visit another of the Gili’s islands.

Day 13: Ferry to Bali and transfer to Ubud

Take the ferry to Bali and then transfer to Ubud. Chill for the rest of the day or go explore around Ubud. Visit the Pura Taman Saraswati, known as the Ubud Water Palace. The little Balinese Hindu temple is known for its lotus pound and is worth a stop for a few minutes. From there, you can head to the Ubud Art Market.

Day 14: Explore the beauty of Ubub

The 3rd week of this 3 Weeks Itinerary in Indonesia. In the morning, Walk the 2h trek of Campuhan Ridge Walk and discover a lush and scenic environment. Then head to Tirta Empul Temple, a Hindu Balinese water temple outskirt of Ubud. From time to start a real adventure in the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary where over 1000 monkeys are living and waiting for you.

End the day at Puri Saren Agung, the historic royal palace offering overnight lodging & Balinese dance performances in the evening

Day 15: Ride to the Tegallalang Rice Terrace and taste the local coffee

Hop on your scooter and drive to the Tegallalang Rice Terrace, one of Bali most scenic place. The terraced hillside offers rice paddies amid lush greenery. From there keep on until Bali Pulina coffee to discover how is produce the famous Luwak coffee and end your visit with a degustation

Tegallalang Rice Terrace Ubud

Day 16: Head to the north of the island at Danau Batur

This will be a longer scooter ride, so better do it if the weather is good or organise a car. Discover the beauty of Danau Batur, volcanic crater lake about 30 km northeast of Ubud.

Then head to Batur Natural Hot Spring and Toya devasaya for a local experience in a hot spring. ering various pools with different temperature, the hot spring is a great place to experience

Bali Travel Guide

Day 17: Discover the Tegenungan Waterfall and the Elephant Cave (Goa Gojah)

Hike the easy trail to Tegenungan Waterfall, an isolated but is popular tourist attraction in Bali where you can see a nice waterfall.

Then discover the Elephant Cave, a sanctuary built in the 9th century which serve as a sanctuary.

Day 18: Go for a Yoga Class and a Local massage

One of the top things to do in Bali, is to experience a Yoga Class, we personally did it every day in early morning. But even, if you are not into it, give it a try. There are various Yoga studio and lots of classes. We recommend Ubud Yoga House for a more local and private experience.

Then in the afternoon, try out some local massage.  One of the most famous is Karsa Spa. Make sure to make a reservation before going there.

Ubud Yoga House Bali

Day 19: Head south to Seminyak

Enjoy the morning at your accommodations and then take a shuttle to Seminyak. Once there, drop your belonging and head to the beach. The Seminyak beach is a top beach to chill and relax in Bali.

Day 20: Explore south of Bali, Tanah Lot, Uluwatu…

Go See the  Uluwatu Temple, a Balinese Hindu sea temple. The temple is regarded as one of the sad kahyangan and is dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Rudra. Then drive on to Tanah Lot, a rock formation off the coast of f Bali. It is home to the ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah. It is iconic for photography.

Day 21: Return home
