Travelling ain’t always a quiet river! And while on the road lots of unexpected travel story can happen. It did to us, those are our most memorable travel story:

We spent 2 weeks in the Philippines with a group of Friend. After 10 days in El Nido, all of us were sick. We all had similar symptoms but at different strength.

Some of us puked once or twice. I got sick badly for 1 to 2 days.

But for Tina, it was another story. As she got sick, and vomited a couple of times, she could barely moved. We had to take her in emergency to the hospital but in El Nido, there isn’t! The nearest one is Puerto Princesa which was too far at this time.

So, our friends brought her to the local clinic and as i was also sick at this time, I was having a hard time following. There, we found the kindest doctor ever. First you pay and then I can take a look at her. If you can’t pay, it’s not my problem.

It was late, and didn’t have much choice, we gave him all we had and negotiated to pay the rest tomorrow.. Ultimately he agreed to treat her.

Then, she stayed with a one of our friend overnight at the Clinic under IV. In the morning, they even realised that the doctor lower the IV injection speed to save some…

The next morning, we went to the gas station where the only ATM was and then back to the clinic, took Tina out and pay the rest of the 700€ he asked for…

She was weak for a couple of days more but ultimately recovered.

PS: I saw in the Clinic some of the biggest cockroach ever!

The Toilet's Night

Green curry thailand

Year: 2016

Everyone who travels to Thailand want to try the local curry! And that’s one of the best food to get.

During our 1st night in Bangkok, we went to a local restaurant in a shopping mall. Awesome, CURRY! Yummy.

The curry was indeed super good. But as soon as I finished it, oh boy! that was spicy and what’s happening to me? I ran to the toilet like a Olympic champion run for the gold medal.

Clean or not didn’t mater anymore!

After I went back to Tina, we started exploring this shopping mall, but quickly I disappeared.

We ended up being 2h in that shopping mall and i ended up 2h in the WC.

Ohh Bali, such a land of wonders. And one of the best place on earth to try some amazing food.

And indeed, we tried lots of food there. One night, we may have over did it. After we finished diner and strolled in the street of Ubud. We took our scooter to get back to our accommodations.

Only problem was, that my stomach started hurting a while back and I super needed to go to toilet (yeah once again a toilet’s story!).

I though, I will go once we are back at our guesthouse. But as we are ridding, it became unbearable to a point I couldn’t take it anymore.

We were in a dirt road, I stopped, jump out of the scooter, leaving it almost as it was to Tina that almost felt and rushed to the bush!

Once this business done, I realised there was a religious shrine right behind me! Oups!!!!

On top of everything, we were not even 100m from our guesthouse… but it was too late now

Travel Story 5: Rishikesh - India

The little thief

Rishikesh monkey thief

Year: 2018

We are animals lover! And while we spent a months in India, we encountered tons of cows and monkeys.

Cows are quite friendly and don’t really mind us but monkeys are another story.

In Rishikesh, there were 2 breads of monkey, one really peaceful and one much more aggressive.

One day, we went to buy some souvenir with a friend. On the way back to our accommodation, we had to pass the famous “Laxman Jhula” Bridge. One of the top spots for monkeys.

Our friend had a plastic bag with all her souvenirs it in. As we crossed the bridge, a monkey jumped out of nowhere, grabbed her bags and sat.

We tried to get it back, but locals told us not too. A tourist who was taking a picture of the monkey even ran away as the monkey started shooting at him!

We then waited, the monkey took all her souvenir one by one out of the bag and opened it, even the one that were packed.

When one was checked and it wasn’t food, it would dropped it. Luckily all of them fell on the bridge side and not on the river… Our friend got all her souvenir back 🙂

When we arrived in Cayo Santa Marina, the weather wasn’t sunny but it was still warm. We decided to go to the beach.

Soon, we started seeing grey clouds and rain over the sea. As it got closer to the beach, the shape of the cloud started changing and a part of the cloud started going down toward the sea.

We realised that it was the creation of a Tornado in front of us. The tornado started from the cloud and was slowly descending toward the ocean.

As it got closer, the ocean under it started to react and water was going up.

We didn’t know what to do. Shall we leave or stay? is it even safe?

In the end we stayed a bit longer, and the tornado didn’t touch down the ocean and went back up.

Unluckly Camera

Rain Machu Picchu

Year: 2019

2 Stories at once in Machu Picchu. During our visit there it was pouring! At first we were using our camera to take pictures but quickly we stopped as the rain got stronger.

In the end of the day, our camera didn’t turn on anymore… We tried to fix it but it would have been too expensive. Since then, we only use our mobile phone for pictures.

The second story is that, we put some of our stuff to dry under the sun, once out of Machu Picchu as we were on a terrace in a cool restaurant. At this time clumsy Tina dropped the camera battery over the roof. Oupsy Daisy!  She rushed down to found it after 3 floor building fall. Luckily there was a garden down there where she found the battery back unbroken.

By then, we weren’t having a plant-based diet, and we had eggs for breakfast. There were nice and I didn’t got anything from them but Tina started to feel unwell. We had planed on biking around SPDA this day, but changed our plan and ended up walking a bit in town and then resting at our accommodations.

Tina was leaking this day from up and down! haha! She wasn’t puking or having diarrhea but had tons of gases. And Oh boy  old eggs smell.

She took a digestive medicine we had, but we didn’t think that the medicine is sparkling which made things even worst.

The next day, she was great again and she still don’t know what happened, but it did.

TMB Day 1: landscape

Year: 2020

The TMB is one if not our favourite hike up to know. It’s a 11-day thru-hike around the Alps.

We were supposed to do it in June but after 4 days, we had to stop due to knee injury… That was really hard on me! Especially that the weather was perfect and it wasn’t crowded.

We decided to finished it end of August. This time my knee was fine. Unfortunately on the 3rd day, the weather turned and it started raining. After 24h under the rain camping and hiking, and with a weather forecast stating it will be like that for another 2 days, we decided top stop.

So, our best hike it still not finish. Guess the TMB is not a lucky hike for us.

That’s it for now for our most memorable travel Story. But some more travel story will be coming soon. Also, I am sure that we forgot some the crazy travel story that happened to us.

And,  we didn’t write about our travel story from 3 years living in China but it will come in a dedicated article as there are tons of things to say!
