About
Peru’s size is about 1.28 million km², making it the 19th biggest country in the world, and the 3rd biggest in South America.
Its population is around 32 million. Its capital is Lima, city known to have the best food in the country.
Peru land is cover by dessert, mountains, Amazon forest making it a versatile land perfect to travel.
The national Flag of Peru consists of three equal vertical stripes of red, white, and red. The red on the flag represents bloodshed while the white represents peace and justice
Peru has a lot of different culture within its people. Mestizos compose 60% of it (Peruvian and European), Ethnic group stand at 24% (Quechuas people), European 6%, Afro-Peruvian 3.6%.
Peru is THE COUNTRY where you can see Llama, Alpacas, and other local camelids. In the street of Cusco, you can see people with llama, or even found stable with llama. In the Cusco fortress, Alpaca are running free.
Peru is home to one of the new seven wonder of the world. Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca’s city that was spare from the Spanish conquistador and remainded hidden for many years. Mother earth claimed it back till its discovery in 1911
What to expect?
Language: The official language is Spanish although a significant number of Peruvians speak Quechua or other indigenous languages. In the main city English will do.
Food: That you love meat or veggies, you will be satisfied in Peru. Some of the traditional dish are Ceviche, Lomo Saltado (Stur fry beef), Papas a la ocopa (potatoes in nutty mint sauce), empanadas or Palta JArdinera (Stuffed avocado).
Transportation: Long distance buses can be found in Peru, though the roads are not the best, the bus itself can be quite old. The easiest way still remains to fly around the country.
Money: The currency in Peru is the Sol. Rates changes, but at the time we were there 1€ was worth 3.85 Sol. Many places accept credit card and many ATM can be found around.
Plugs: The plugs in Peru are type A and C (Euro). The standard voltage is 220V with a frequency of 60hz.
Safety: Peru is now a safe country to travel to. The main risk would be common thief such as pickpocket. But that can find everywhere.
