planning a trip to

Estonia

Here is what you need to know: Estonia Travel Guide

Estonia is one of tree Baltics states along with Lithuania and Latvia. There are so called as they are located next to the Baltic Sea.
Estonia is the country on the top. It is an amazing country with a top-rank capital and some breath-taking landscapes and national parks.
We especially loved the Soomaa national park and its bogs. Tallinn was as well our favourite capital of the Baltic with its medieval vibes.

About

Estonia has a population of about 1.3 million people over 45 339km².   Its capital and largest city is Tallinn.

Estonia is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland across from Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea across from Sweden, to the south by Latvia, and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia

The territory of Estonia consists of the mainland, the larger islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, and over 2,200 other islands and islets on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea

Blue represents the reflection of the sky in the lakes and the sea, symbolising endurance, black stands for the black greatcoat of an Estonian man or for the earth that feeds its people; white marks an aspiration towards light and purity.

Did you know that there are 1,500 islands, 1,000 lakes and 7,000 rivers in Estonia

Estonia has the highest number of meteorite craters per square kilometre in the world. The Kaali crater in Saaremaa is what remains of the last giant meteorite to hit an area populated by humans. It fell to Earth with the power of a nuclear bomb over 4,000 years ago.

There are 1,200 spa beds for 15,000 inhabitants and Kuressaare is the world’s most spa-dense town. With mud baths, saunas and sea air a-plenty, Estonia has been *the place* for spa procedures since the times of the tsars. The healing mud of Haapsalu and Narva-Jõesuu (not to mention the pine forests and pristine sands) made the towns popular already in the 19th century.

What to expect?

Language: The official language is Estonian. But Russian is widely spoken, and English can get you around without any problem

Food: Many traditional dishes can be found. Smoked or marinated eel, crayfish dishes, and imported crabs and shrimps are considered delicacies. One of Estonia’s national dishes is räim (Baltic dwarf herring), along with sprats.

Transportation: Buses and trains are common and easy to use between the main cities. But the best way to explore the country is by car.

Money: The currency in Estonia is the Euro.

Plugs: The plugs in Estonia are type F. The standard voltage is 220V with a frequency of 50hz. Same as the rest of Europe

Safety: Estonia is super safe. Most people there main their own business. It is not too crowded nor touristic, so even risk of pickpocketing is quite low
