Easter island accommodation: About the place
The place we booked was a bungalow outskirt of Hanga Roa. We chose it as a treat to ourselves and as an ending to our vacation.
The owner of the place Rosy picked us up from the airport and greeted us with flower necklace. Then she showed us around the main street of Hanga Roa where we made a few stops to buy grocery and what we would need during our stay. Next, was the ticket office (for more details, click here). Then we bought a 20L water bottle and onto the house.
That was really helpful because it would have been quite the challenge to buy all of this and bring it back to the bungalow by ourselves.
Mapping the day
The location is perfect. The bungalow is located in the owner family area and is truly secluded. You won’t hear civilization from there.
You are 15 to 20min from the main street of Hanga Roa and 15min to the national park entrance. The way to town is super cool and along the cost of the island going through Ahu Tahai.
Reviews
The apartment is well equipped and furnished with everything one could need during a stay. We can argue about some items but globally it is quite good.
The main room of the house is made of the living room, kitchen and room but yet really spacious. We are yogis and we still had place for our mat on the floor without moving anything:
- The room is equipped with a double bed, night tables, wardrobes and a small TV.
- The living room is made of a couch and small table.
- The kitchen is furnished with an equipped set, gas heater, boilers, fridge, etc…
One inconveniency would be when the engine of the fridge gets on. It makes a bit of noise, but it didn’t bother us.
A small corridor is leading to the bathroom and a second room.
The bathroom has a wash basin, toilet and walk-in shower. It was commodious and had everything you need. Soap, conditioner and shampoo were offered. As always, toilet paper is supplied but can’t be put inside the toilet.
The second room is a twin room with a desk and wardrobes. We didn’t used it, but it would be perfect for kids or a 3rd guest.
The best part of it was the teases. It had a nice couch, perfect for a drink and a round table perfect for meals.
The kitchen
Let’s get more in detail with the kitchen. That’s what made us save a lot of money. So even with a more expensive accommodation, we would save a lot by cooking all our meals.
Instant coffee and tea were provided free. It had everything you would need: All utensils (forks, knifes, spoons…) small and big plates, cups, glasses.
In terms of equipment, a fridge with a freezer was present, as well as, a sink, a gas cooking range, a toaster and all the pans you would dream of, or almost.
One comment is that you could see that it is not new anymore but well we are on an island after all on the other side of the world.
A coffee machine could have been a bonus as it is possible to find grounded coffee on the island.
the view
Here it what you are paying for! and we can’t complain about it. We could stay all day seating on the terrace enjoying the view from the bungalow.
Even though the days are short on the island, we would still be at breakfast from 8:00 to 10:00am and having a drink from 6:00 to 7:00pm.
Before or after that it would be too cold to really enjoy it but also too dark.
sunset
If you are looking for sunset, a great viewpoint is just 5min walking from the bungalow. Or 2min if you are lazy to walk down to the coast and just reach the road.
Sunrise is on the other side of the island, if you desire to see it, you would need a transportation mean (car, scooter…) to drive early in the morning to Ahu Tongariki
