Reaching Puerto IguaƧu
Getting there
There are a few ways to get in:
- By car
- By bus. From Buenos Aires, it is a 17h30 bus trip. And many companies are doing the line.
- By plane. The airport name is IGR. Be careful not to choose the Brazilian side one if you want to fly to Argentina. In brazil the town is called Foz do Iguazu. There are a few companies flying regular plane to Puerto Iguacu. Latam, Aerolinas Argentinas and Norwegian. Flybondi also have a few flights.
Once in the airport, there are 4 ways to get to town:
- Renting a car
- Taking the shuttle from āFour touristā (our way)
- Having organise a complete tour
- Taxi
For the shuttle Four tourist, as soon as you get out of the claim luggage area, you will have their counter. You can purchase a ticket to the city for 280 pesos each. (A taxi cost 950 pesos). While buying the ticket, they will ask you the address of your accommodation as they will drop you in front of it.
There is no city bus line from the airport to town.
Getting out of there
Those are the same option as to get in.
To get back to the airport as there is no city bus line, the only option is āFour touristā. You can organise a pickup from your hostel in advance or if you call at the last minute you can get pick up from a main street.
The easiest is to ask your guest or hostel to book it for you. If not, you can also call them 03757 42-0681.
We called them on a Sunday at 11:10am for a transfer to the airport. The only option we had was to be picked up from the main street at 11:30am or 1pm. We quickly ended up the call and rush to the meeting point in the main street. We made it in time and caught them. It cost us 280 pesos each and we paid once we arrived at the airport.
Things to do
There are not tonnes of things to do in town. And the true highlight is the waterfall national park.
3 Borders
Yet, it is nice to go at late afternoon, beginning of evening at the 3 borders. Place where you can see 3 countries at once (Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay). There is a small fountain show there, a small flea market and a bus terminal. It is a nice spot to enjoy a beer with the view over the river.
Main Plaza
Another great experience is to go at night at the Main Plaza where the church is. It is a cool location at night to see local people playing with their kid, skating, biking, chilling. As the weather is hot and humid, night is the perfect time to go out.
feria street
If you are looking for restaurants and local shops, the feria street will be the best option. This street first offers bars and restaurants before getting more into street restaurants and shops.
