Hey everyone, in this article we will share with you the best things to do in Saint-Tropez. In Mai 2024, we spent 1 week travelling in south of France, precisely in the PACA region (Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur) and around the department of the Var and Alpes-Maritimes.
Saint-Tropez was our next destination after Nice and Monaco.
Saint-Tropez is a coastal town, long popular with artists, the town attracted the international “jet set” in the 1960s and remains known for its beaches and nightlife. The cobblestoned La Ponche quarter recalls its past as a fishing village, although yachts now outnumber fishing boats in the Vieux Port (Old Port).
What was unexpected is that we were there during “Chefs in Saint-Tropez celebrate the Producers”. This event takes place once per year and gather some of the top French chefs as well as their most priced suppliers. Along the fair, we discovered all the best ingredients used by the top chef!

How to get to Saint-Tropez
Let’s start these best things to do in Saint-Tropez by how to get to Saint-Tropez. Well, it is easy. Saint-Tropez is located between Nice and Marseille and by car it takes :
- Nice to Saint-Tropez: 1h45
- Marseille à Saint-Tropez: 2h
So, the best way to get to Saint-Tropez is through Nice International Airport, located 106km from the centre of Saint-Tropez.
Then you can either rent a car to have more freedom especially if you plan on visiting other cities around the French Riviera, like Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Eze, Saint-Tropez. For our rental, we always use rentalcars.com and always had the best experience ever.
If you are already in France, than you can consider taking the train to Nice. For exemple you have direct train from Paris. Check out Omio to know all the schedules.
Moving Around
The best way to move around Saint-Tropez is on foot. Let’s be honest, once you are in the old town of Saint-Tropez, you can easily reach all the main sight walking around.
However, to get to the nearby town and villages, a rental car would be great to have: rentalcars.com
When to Visit
Saint-Tropez is located in south of France; it is therefore a year-round destination. Nice is blessed with a Mediterranean climate that brings mild winters and hot summers.
In any case remember that the peak season is July and August. We would recommend going in May/June or September/October.

What to Eat
Regarding cuisine, Saint-Tropez has the same cuisine as the rest of the French Riviera, meaning that Mediterranean cuisine will be everywhere. You will find lots of great fish and seafood as well as all the meat dishes that you find in this area. The traditional desert is the Tropézienne, be sure to try it out.

Port of Saint-Tropez
In the heart of Saint-Tropez’s old town, the port is where the jet set arrives in style on their yachts. The Gendarmerie Museum is without a doubt one of our favorite things to do in Saint-Tropez. Made famous by the French comedy films Le Gendarme starring Louis de Funès, this museum takes you on a journey through some of France’s most iconic comedy films—all set and filmed in Saint-Tropez. It’s a must-visit for movie lovers and a fun way to experience a piece of French cinema history!

Strolling through the event, we had the chance to discover exceptional ingredients and meet the artisans behind them—a true treat for food lovers!
Provencal Flea Market
This market is renowned for its colorful stalls, brimming with local produce, fresh fruits and vegetables, Provençal specialties, and handcrafted goods. As you wander through, you’ll have the chance to sample local flavors and soak in the lively atmosphere so characteristic of markets in the south of France. It’s a must-visit for both locals and tourists, and we absolutely loved the experience!

Pampelonne Beach
