Introduction
Eguisheim is often called one of the most beautiful villages in France, and when Christmas comes around, it feels like stepping straight into a snow globe. The entire medieval village, with its circular layout, half-timbered houses, and cobblestone alleys, turns into a glowing Christmas wonderland.
The Eguisheim Christmas Market is much smaller and quieter than Strasbourg or Colmar, which makes it perfect for those looking for a more authentic, intimate Christmas market experience. The village has this cozy, fairytale feel — locals greet you warmly, the smell of mulled wine drifts through the air, and soft lights reflect off the pastel-colored houses.
And did you know that it is said that Eguisheim inspired the village from the famous Disney movie Beauty and the Beast?
It’s also just a short drive from Colmar, which makes Eguisheim Christmas Market a great half-day or day trip if you’re exploring multiple Alsace Christmas markets.

Getting there
Eguisheim is located just 7 km from Colmar, making it one of the easiest Christmas markets in Alsace to reach — and perfect for a short visit or day trip.
The simplest and most flexible option to get to the Eguisheim Christmas Market is by car. From Colmar, it’s a quick 10-minute drive following the D30 road. During the Christmas season, several temporary parking areas are set up around the village (follow “Parking Marché de Noël”). Arrive early if visiting on weekends, as spots fill up fast. The last time we were there, we parked at the parking Rue du Muscat or you can also use the Town Hall parking.
If you are in Strasbourg, the easiest way is to take a train to Colmar. From Colmar train station, Christmas shuttles run to the Eguisheim Christmas Market and other nearby markets like Turckheim and Kaysersberg. They’re affordable and ideal if you don’t want to worry about parking.
Tip: Eguisheim Christmas Market pairs perfectly with Colmar’s Christmas Market — visit both on the same day for a full dose of Alsatian magic.

Moving Around
What makes the Eguisheim Christmas Market unique is that Eguisheim is a small and circular medieval village — once you park your car or get off the shuttle, you can explore everything entirely on foot. The Christmas market spreads across the main squares (Place du Château, Place Saint-Léon, and Place du Marché) and along the narrow cobblestone streets that wind around the village.
The best way to experience the Eguisheim Christmas Market is to follow the circular route that loops around the colorful half-timbered houses. You’ll naturally pass by all the decorated courtyards, artisan stalls, and small wine cellars offering tastings.
Tips:
- Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds.
- The market is pedestrian-only, so strollers are fine, but cobblestones can be tricky — comfortable shoes are a must.
- Don’t hesitate to step inside shops and wineries — many locals open their doors just for the Christmas season.

When to Visit
The Eguisheim Christmas Market 2025 runs across several festive periods, offering plenty of chances to experience its cozy and authentic charm. In 2025, it runs every day from November 28th until December 30th, except December 24/25/26.
The Eguisheim Christmas Market usually opens from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with extended evening hours on weekends when the village lights up beautifully.
Tips:
- Visit the Eguisheim Christmas Market early December for the most authentic atmosphere, before the holiday rush.
- Weekdays are quieter and perfect for photography.
- After Christmas, the Eguisheim Christmas Market feels more peaceful — the lights are still up, but the crowds are gone, creating a cozy, local vibe.

Start your visit by walking along the two circular “Grand Rue” streets that wrap around the village. Don’t hesitate to switch between them — both are lined with beautifully decorated houses, local boutiques, and cozy artisan shops where you’ll find handmade candles, wooden toys, and Alsatian ornaments.

The most famous spot of the circular walk is where the 2 streets come together.

After exploring the outer streets, head toward the heart of the village. Walk from one small square to another until you reach Place du Château Saint-Léon, the main square and center of the Christmas market. This is where you’ll find most of the festive stalls, serving warm food, mulled wine, and local crafts.
