The colors of the flag are the official colors of Germany. There are many theories in circulation regarding the origins of the colour scheme and up until today nobody really knows the true origin of the colors.
The Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). It is held every year in Munich and last for 16 to 18 days running from mid- or late September to the first Sunday in October. With more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.
Did you know that Germany has more than 1000 different varieties of sausages. So if you like sausages, you will need some time to try them all. Some of the most famous are: Bratwurst, blut, bockwurst, Frankfurter Würstchen, Knackwurst and so on…
And to go along the sausage, there are over 7000 varieties of beers! With over 1300 breweries in the country, it ain’t a surprise. You will find all type of beers there but the most famous are Pilsner, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Spaten Oktoberfest, Einbecker Ur-Bock…
What to expect?
Language: The official language is German. Though English will get you around the touristic area. Near the borders, various languages are spoken.
Food: Traditional food is often Sausages or meats with potatoes. But you will be able to find some vegetarian options and vegan one in the bigger city.
Transportation: Germany’s transportation hub is quite developed. Trains and planes can get you around easily and once in the city, tram or buses can be ride easily.
Money: The currency is the EURO.
Plugs: The plugs are type I. The standard voltage is 220V with a frequency of 50hz.
Safety: Germany is a pretty safe country for all type of travellers. And along hikes, you can often see snaps fountains, and nobody is stealing it. In bigger city, pickpocketing can happen but if you are careful, you won’t have a problem.
