El Zapato
El Zapato translated means the shoes. The origin of the name is easy as on this point there is a rock formation looking like a shoe.
The stone formation is the protagonist of a legend that tells that, hundreds of years ago, the Comechingones Indians met in this place every thirteen moons (one year of our calendar). Under the protection of El Zapato, the chiefs, sorcerers and healers of all the tribes congregated to meditate and deliberate on common matters.
The area is located 30min walking from downtown and can also be access by car, bike…
The road that leads there is flat and therefor accessible to everyone. At the end, there are a few stairs to climb to get to the viewpoint.
It is a touristic place where many people come to take pictures as the view is beautiful and allow you to see the complete city
It is also a great place, to chill for a while before continuing toward the lake.
Lake Ej Cajon Dam
The dam has a height of 39 meters and has a maximum reservoir water volume of 11.8 Hm3. It was built from 1987 till 1993 in order to provide fresh drinkable water and optimizing the irrigation of the town of San Marcos Sierra.
Today, the dam is also a tourist attraction. You can walk on it and reach a small viewpoint that gives you a panorama of the lake.
Once in Zapato, the dam can be easily reach. It is another 20 to 30min walking.
