Introduction: South America Packing Guide

We were planning a 3 months trip to south America from January to March meaning it would be summer there. We had for idea to start in Sao Paulo and follow down the cost of Brazil till Uruguay. One in Uruguay we would keep the doing the same until we reach the ferry for Buenos Aires. From there we would visit Argentina until Patagonia before going to the south of Chile. Later we would take a plane to Ecuador and keep travelling by bus to Colombia to re-enter Brazil from the Amazon forest and finish the north part.

That’s the idea, after as we had planned nothing maybe we would barely made it to Patagonia, let’s see.

In any case, this itinerary would bring us from the got tropical weather of Brazil to the cold mountain of Patagonia, here is what I packed for it.

Feedback after the trip

After those 3 months, we were quite fine we what we brought with us. We did not really miss anything in terms of clothing. Though, as we made lot of hiking, we had to replace our foldable day pack by real 20/22L backpack for more comfort.

I could also have been lighter; 1 Mid layer hoody and 1 hiking pants less would have saved some space. But that’s if you really want to be a minimalist.

Also, I didn’t get to use the underpant, the weather was never that cold.

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
