Introduction: Fortaleza travel guide
Fortaleza is the 5th biggest city in Brazil and the capital of the Fortaleza state. It is said to be the local authorities to have become one of the most desire travel destination in Brazil.
After spending 2 days there, for us Fortaleza was more of a transit city to reach Jericoacoara than a place to stay. Though our stay was great due to our Airbnb (that is unfortunately not anymore available), we wouldn’t recommend staying more than one day and that is if you wish to see it for yourself.

Where to stay in Fortaleza
We stayed in the Meireles district of the city. It was well located and close to everything, the beaches, the city center and touristic attraction.

How to move around
As always in Brazil, nothing better and safer than Uber.
What to do
Iracema Beach
One of the biggest and best beach town. During our stay there in was mostly raining so the beach was empty, but it was still a great walk. Along the beach you will find:
- Guardian Iracema Statue: representing “virgem dos lábios de mel”, the Iracema Guardia guarding the beach.
- Pier Da Praia De Iracema
- do Ingleses
Mercado dos Peixes de Fortaleza
It you like seafood, you will get the best one there. You just pick up the fresh one from the market and then go the restaurant next to it to have cooked the local way.
