Introduction
Ushuaia claims to be the end of the world, the world southernmost city. This title is disputed with another small town in Chile (Puerto Williams) much smaller than the Argentinian town.
Ushuaia is located on the north of the Beagle channel which separate the larger main island of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego from various smaller islands including the island. The Beagle Channel along with the Straits of Magellan (to the north), and the open-ocean Drake Passage (to the south) are the three navigable passages between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. However, most commercial shipping uses the open-ocean Drake Passage. The Beagle Channel is about 240 kilometres long and is about 5 kilometres wide at its narrowest point.
And is located on the south of the Martial Mountains, a small range of mountains
It was founded in 1884 and is home to about 57 000 people. It’s the base town to Antarctica cruise and while it is a industrial town, we really liked it.

Getting there
The easiest way to get to Ushuaia is either by bus or by plane. We arrived there by bus from Puerto Natales (Chile), but you can make it there from many cities in south Patagonia.
The bus station is located near the port and near the city center, so it is quite easy to then walk from there.

The other option is by plane as Ushuaia has its own airport. Coming from Buenos Aires might be the best. We flew to there after our stay in the end of the world city.
The airport is located on a small peninsula, so taking a taxi might be the easiest way to then reach the city. It costed us 370 pesos for a 15min from the city center.
Main street & Souvenir
The main street of Ushuaia is Avenue San Martin, there many shops, restaurants, accommodation are present.
If you are looking for souvenir, we would recommend “Tierra de Humos” that offers original gifts. And of course, paying a visit “La Ultima Bita” is a cool thing to do. You will discover a huge souvenir shop with tonnes of touristic souvenirs.
Prison museum
We popped by the Prison museum as we heard it is a great place to visit. But as we arrived end of the afternoon, we gave it up as we would not have time to enjoy it. Plus, it cost 1300 pesos per person which is quite expensive for such a museum.
Its name comes from its origin. It’s used to be a museum
