TMB Stage 6: Rifugio Bonatti to La Fouly
Leaving Bonatti
After a good night sleep in Rifugio Bonatti, we woke up around 5:45am, got ready and then headed to breakfast for 6:30am. Breakfast there is from 6:15am to 7:45am.
The beds were comfortable, and it was warm in our room, even though there was not any heater. One small thing would be that the walls are thin, and you could hear people walking or the bathroom.
Rifugio Bonatti to Refuge Val Ferret
We left Rifugio Bonatti to La Fouly at 7:10am. Once again, the views toward the Mont Blanc massif are stunning. After a few hundred meters, we even saw 2 deer (could also have been Chamois or Ibex but couldn’t tell).
The first part of the trail goes quite straight and flat which is really enjoyable. The end of it is the descend toward Val Ferret valley to change mountain.
Elena to Grand Col Ferret
Now the real hike started. And if before it was going up, now it is going even more and without any stop. Along the way, we popped by a group of cows on the trail. They were quite friendly.
We arrived at Grand Col Ferret by 11:15am. It was a great walked till up there and with the sun on or back it felt amazing.
Time for another well-deserved break for lunch before going on. (30min)
Grand Col Ferret to La Fouly
And finally, we had to get all the back down to the valley to reach la Fouly. The first part of the trail was amazing with wild landscape. Later on, we passed by a few villages before ending a bit in the forest. At a point we followed a river that was full of statues.
We arrived in la Fouly around 2:2pm. We went grocery at the supermarket and then headed to the camping.
We did not reserve but it was not an issue. We were amongst the first there. And at the end our tent was alone but ended up with 3 others around it.
The camping spot cost us 28CHF (some 27€). With that we had hot showers as long as we want, clean toilets, a big hut to seat and eat, where a microwave and a kettle were free to use. The reception of the camping also sells some items in case.
It was a comfortable camping!
We first took a nice and hot shower and then did some Yoga to stretch our muscles. Then we had a drinks and dinner and went early to bed.
