Unique Guesthouse Montevideo
“Chez Mario & Solange” is ideally located near the historical city center of Montevideo at Curiales 1534. From there you can easily access the public transportation as well as a grocery shops and attractions all over the city.
The guesthouse has a total of 5 rooms plus one room for the host, Mario. The shared area is made of a fully equipped kitchen, dining areas, a sitting area in the corridor and a big rooftop where you find a big table and an area to sit and chill.
Along with Mario, you will find Solange his daughter (during the weekend) and Julien his son-in-law (every morning and evening).
Of course, Mario will mainly always be available. A little trick for your arrival, ring and knock on the door because it is hard to hear from the rooftop.
What we really appreciated was the thoughtful touches of the place. Lots of attention has been put in the house and everywhere you look there will be small detailed that makes the place amazing.
The rooms
The 5 rooms available are:
- 1 big double room with balcony
- 1 double room with balcony (our)
- 2 double rooms without balcony (no windows)
- 1 twin room without balcony (no windows)
Our room was really comfortable and spacious enough. There was a double bed, a small desk with a chair, a wardrobe, a fan and the balcony.
Our room was smaller than the others, but it is nice to have some natural light.
Breakfast & Snacks
Every morning, breakfast is provided from 9am. At this time, you will find brewed coffee, hot water to make tea and freshly squeeze orange juice. Along with that there will be a salty cake, a few sweet cakes and oatmeal.
But don’t worry cakes are changing every morning. And a great thing is that what is not eaten is left in case you would like to snack during the day. So, at any time you can make yourselves a coffee/tea and eat a slice of cake.
Additionally, if you want to leave early, you can as well make yourselves some coffee and tea.
The shared area
The kitchen was well equipped and for 4 days we cooked all our meals there. Of course, we didn’t make any Chef cooking, but we weren’t eating pasta with tomatoes sauce either.
One thing that we really appreciated was to have a drink and dinner on the terraces. It gets quite hot in January there but at night there always was a fresh breeze on the roof.
Another cool stuff was that if it gets too hot in the house, the roof can be opened completely.
The Hosts
If you are into old movies, movies stars, music and music band, Mario will be your man. He has such a knowledge about it and love to talk about it. We enjoyed a lot chatting with him and even his English is not perfect, we manage to communicate and when it was too hard, well Tina would use Spanish.
Julien, his son in law was present in the morning and evening. While Mario is Uruguayan, Julien is French and speak perfectly Spanish, English and French. If you are looking for good tips, ask him. He recommended us the flea market of Montevideo and it was amazing. Also, you can simply talk with him about everything.
Great place, Great people.
