Road Trip Merzouga to Fes 1-day

In November 2022, we made a 16-day Road trip in Morocco going all around and driving over 2 500 km (in a Fiat 500! What an adventure).

Our trip started and ended in Fes, and we made a loop in order to visit this magnificent country. Our itinerary went through the main cities, the Sahara Desert, the seaside and the mountains of Morocco.

We personally rented a car at the airport and did the following: Fes, Chefchaouen, Rabat, Casablanca, Essaouira, Marrakesh, Imlil, Telouet, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Merzouga, Ifrane. However, you don’t need to follow it by the dot, you can use it to make your own plan.

As of now, our trip in Morocco is almost finish. We already spent 14-day in the country and what’s left is the road back to Fes where we started. But in order to make it easier on us, we will make a stop 1h before Fes in Ifrane, an alpine-like region of Morocco.

Ifrane is a town in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. It’s known for its alpine-style architecture and nearby ski slopes and forests. A stone statue of a lion near leafy Parc la Prairie is a well-known landmark. Just outside town, Ain Vittel is a spring with several waterfalls. To the west, Ifrane National Park, with its Atlas cedar forests, is home to rare Barbary macaques.

In this article, we will tell our story going from Merzouga or Ifrane. So, if you too are planning a trip to Morocco, then let ‘s dive in road trip Merzouga to Fes 1-day

Road trip Merzouga to Fes

Introduction

We woke up one last time in the desert around 6h30 and went out to watch dawn and sunrise.  After breakfast we took some more videos and photos and left around 10am.

sunrise in Merzouga

Road to Azrou

We then went on driving towards north until Azrou where we will stay tonight. Azrou is located right next to Ifrane, and we found a nice farm stay there.

It is a long way as there 400km which takes around 6h

Barbary macaques & Forest

Along the road we pass some huge forest where lots of wild monkeys were. They were lots of them on the road.

We arrived at our accommodation outside our Azrou and rested.

Ifrane

We took it easy this last morning. Had breakfast, walked a bit, and then paid our bill for dinner and breakfast.

We then went to Ifrane where we found a nice free parking on the street. We walk around Ifrane, but it is super small. So, after 1h we left for Fes where our trip ended.
