Introduction: Chileno camping

Chileno shelter and camping is located in the east part of the park. It’s the base to hike Las Torre, the mountain that gave its name to the park.

The location of this shelter is on a cliff between a mountain and the river, meaning that camping there will be in a tent in a platform.

Camping Chileno

Camping area

The camping area is within a cliff area surrounded on one side by mountain and a river on the other. There are define spot for the tent where platforms have been built. Otherwise it would be possible to camp there.

The tent that is provided are basic 2 people tent.

The sleeping bags are great and are made to get at -17°C or so. There are no pillows.

Also be aware that you will have all night the river sound.

Bathroom

The bathrooms are located behind the shelter. As this area in on the side of a mountain, you need to get down from the camping area to the shelter which can be a hustle.

There are 2 showers for men and 2 for women. The same for WC. Soap and Shampoo are provided in the shower.

At first, we saw that there was some sign that you need to pay for WC and shower but that’s for regular visitors during the day. If you camp there, you can access it as much as you want.

There is 24h hot water as well.

Kitchen

There is no kitchen area which mean you cannot use any gas stow there. There is also no shared area. Only a few tables within the shelter that are mostly used by them to serve dinner and some in front, but which are outside.

The night we were there it was raining, so it was not fun.

There is drinking water from a tap on the side of the shelter and hot water is provided for free from the shelter. Just need to ask.

Shelter/Refugio

When we dropped and picked up our bags we got to sneak in the shelter and look around.

Rooms

The rooms are made of 3 double bunk beds and can accommodate up to 6 people. This shelter was quite small compared to the other we saw.

Each bed has a light and an USB. Each room also have a place to hang wet towel or clothes but no storage within the room.

Each room has a window

Bathroom

There are separated for men and women. For each there are 3 WCs and 3 showers. Hot water 24h/7 as well.

Dining area & Bar

The dining area is in front of the shelter where the reception is.

The bar is the reception. In this shelter everything is more packed.

Shop / Minimarket

There is only a survival shops there located in the reception of the camping. You can see some items, but I would not count on it. Better arrive there with what you need.

Luggage drop

During the day, you can drop your luggage in the shelter that have a shell for them. Only people staying in the shelter or the camping can use it.
