Introduction: Paine Grande camping

Paine Grande shelter and camping is located in the south east part of the park. From this point, you can leave or reach the park with a regular ferry from/to Pudeto.

The location of this shelter is amazing and the landscape around are gorgeous. Plus, it is in flat area and the camping is quite spacious.

If you desire, you can drop your bags there and there is as well a minimarket.

Camping Paine Grande

Camping area

The camping area is within a flat area surrounded on one side by a mountain and a lake on the other. There are define spots for the tent but most of them are already in place as they are rented all year round. The tent that is provided is The North face summit series tent and it seems to be the 3 places one so if you are 2, there are pretty spacious.

The sleeping bags are great and are made to get at -17°C or so. There are no pillows.

Bathroom

There are separated bathrooms for men and women. During the rush hours, a second set for both is open. At the time I took a shower, there was not hot water and it was pretty cold. But later we overheard people telling they had hot water. The showers are separated but the changing room is common and quite small. It gets quickly wet but fine for a night

Kitchen

There is a kitchen area which is actually a place where you can use gas stow. A big sitting area where lots of table is next to it.

From the kitchen you can get drinkable water as well.

Shelter/Refugio

General information

When we arrived there, we went inside the shelter to see what it was like.

Check-in can be done from 1pm and check-out is 9:30am the next day. Electricity and hot water till midnight.

Rooms

We didn’t get the chance to see the rooms as for this you need to get pass the reception desk.

Dining area

The dinning area is a buffet type cafeteria and is located at the right side directly when you enter the shelter.

Bar

There is a bar that serves drink and food on the 1st floor where the dining area is. We popped by and it was super full, but it isn’t big. The menu is the same as what we saw in Grey shelter.

Shop

A minimarket is present next to the kitchen in case you need or forgot something:

  • Waters
  • Beers
  • Sodas
  • Cookies
  • Biscuits
  • Nutella
  • DDL
  • Chocolate
  • Chips
  • Dry soups
  • Pasta and sauce
  • Wraps
  • Cheeses
  • Eggs
  • Breads
  • And so on…

If you need to use internet, there are some computer available.
