Introduction
Sometimes life keeps us at home — whether it’s work, family, or simply waiting for the next adventure. But being grounded doesn’t mean your love for travel has to fade, nor that you can’t travel from home.
There are countless ways to explore the world from your living room — through food, films, stories, and small moments that spark curiosity. Keeping that sense of wanderlust alive not only feeds your imagination but also gives you something beautiful to look forward to.
Travel from Home: How to Stay Inspired Between Trips
Dream on Pinterest
Pinterest is our go-to place whenever we’re searching for ideas or inspiration. It’s perfect for travel dreaming — but also for everyday life, home decor, recipes, or anything that sparks creativity.
Think of Pinterest less as social media and more as a visual search engine. It’s where wanderlust begins. Create a new board and start pinning photos of destinations you’d love to visit. It’s a simple way to stay inspired and keep your next adventure alive, even while you’re at home.

Plan Ahead
Even if you’re a last-minute traveler, there are moments when planning becomes part of the adventure. And when you’re spending more time at home, it’s actually the perfect opportunity to dream big and start mapping out future trips.
Do a little research, read blogs, save itineraries, and build a list of places that spark your curiosity. Once the groundwork is laid, you’ll be ready to jump on that great last-minute deal when the time comes to pack your bags again.
For example, I’ve been dreaming of hiking the Haute Route, a stunning thru-hike from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland. I’ve started looking into camping options, mountain refuges, and how to cook along the way — so when the day finally comes, we’ll be ready to hit the trail.

This one goes hand in hand with planning ahead, but it’s all about using Google Maps as your personal travel wish list. Every time you come across a place that sparks your curiosity, add a pin. Over time, you’ll create your own custom map full of dream destinations, cafés, hikes, viewpoints, and hidden gems.
When it’s time to travel again — or when a flight deal pops up — you can simply open your map and see what’s nearby. It makes spontaneous trips so much easier (and way more fun).
And if you’d rather have something tangible, you can also check out our online travel maps, perfect for marking the places you’ve been and those still waiting on your list.

Travel with Google Maps VR
If you’re into virtual reality and have the gear for it, try exploring the world through Google Maps VR. It’s surprisingly immersive — you can “walk” through city streets, climb mountain trails, or wander along beaches without leaving your living room. We tested it at a friend’s place, and honestly, it’s incredible. It’s one of the most creative ways to travel from home and keep that sense of wanderlust alive.
Explore Flight Paths
Even when you can’t travel yet, it’s fun to dream about where you could go next. Most airports publish their direct flight routes on their websites — even the smaller ones. Browse through them and start imagining new trips or hidden connections you hadn’t thought about before.
Or, if you prefer something visual, open Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” search to explore worldwide routes. You can’t always book them right away, but it’s a great way to daydream and plan your next escape.
Take an Online Museum Tour
If you love art and culture, you can explore some of the world’s greatest museums without leaving your home. Google Arts & Culture has partnered with more than 2,000 museums and galleries to offer high-resolution exhibits, virtual tours, and behind-the-scenes stories from around the globe. From the Louvre in Paris to the MoMA in New York, you can wander through iconic halls and discover masterpieces in incredible detail — all from your couch.
Rediscover Your Old Photos
We all have thousands of travel photos sitting forgotten on our phones or hard drives. Why not take the time to relive those moments? Browse through your old albums, organize them, or even create a digital scrapbook or printed photo book.
Every time we do this, we end up finding pictures we’d completely forgotten about — and it instantly brings back the magic of those past adventures. Sometimes, it even inspires the next one.

About the authors
We are Alex and Tina, a French-Serbian couple who met in China back in 2014. We spent three incredible years there before making France our home. Our shared passion for travel has been the heartbeat of our relationship for over 12 years, taking us across 44 countries and counting.
We launched TheDailyPackers in 2019 as a way to document our adventures. In 2026, we reached a major milestone by officially turning our blog into our full-time job. While we are still growing toward financial independence through this platform, every article we write is fueled by our mission to make your voyages easier through in-depth guides, honest advice, and the lessons we’ve learned from our own mistakes.
Our journey has not been without its storms. In 2023, our world changed forever when our first son, Poppy, was stillborn on November 25th. It was, and remains, the hardest chapter of our lives. In 2025, we were blessed with our second little boy, Milo. He has since joined our traveling tribe, and you’ll be seeing him—and the reality of traveling with a little one-on the blog more and more.
We hope to inspire you to explore the world with curiosity and resilience. Thank you for being part of our story.
