Introduction: Travel VPN
Before we lived in China, we didn’t really know what a VPN was. Once we arrived there, it was amongst the first thing we bought.

What is a VPN?
VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a private connection between your device and any website or application.
When you connect to a page, you are using an internet IP (address) generated from your computer/internet. By using a VPN you can change the IP.
Why use it?
In some country, you may not be able to access all the internet content. For exemple, China’s network (when you are connected to WIFI, 4G…) has lots of restrictions. Those restrictions are coming from the gouverment that uses a firewall and restrict the data entering.
So accessing google, facebook, instagram, whatsapp is not possible. Activating a VPN allowed us to use them all while being connected to China’s network.
Another exemple, downloading in some country is forbidden, and if you get caught you will get a fine. For this the police is using your IP address to know who you are. Using a VPN is hidding (changing) your IP, so the police can’t find you.
How to use it?
Download and install the APP (phone) or software (PC).
Connect to it, and turn it on. You don’t even need to select a server anymore, you can just connct to the best one.
From there, close the APP, (the VPN icon will stay on), and get on.
Ibn China we used Astrill VPN which was a great choice and now we are using NORD VPN which is even better and has great offers.
