Introduction
Before any trip abroad, it’s crucial to check your travel visa requirements — not just whether you need one, but what kind you’ll need. Is it a visa on arrival, an e-Visa, or something you must apply for weeks in advance? These details can completely change how smoothly your trip begins.
Too many travelers overlook this step and end up facing unpleasant surprises — like being denied boarding at the airport, stuck at immigration, or paying unexpected fees on arrival. Asking yourself early “Do I need a travel visa?” can save a lot of stress, time, and money later on.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to find your travel visa, understand the differences between types of visas, and make sure you’re always ready for your next adventure.

Some of Our Visa Stories
Visa Issue in Bolivia
Before heading to Bolivia, we quickly checked Wikipedia and saw that we could get a visa on arrival, so we didn’t prepare anything in advance. Big mistake. When we landed, I (with a French passport) got through in 5 minutes, but Tina (with a Serbian passport) wasn’t as lucky. She needed multiple documents that we didn’t have with us, and the immigration officers refused her entry twice.
We were running around trying to find printers, internet cafés, and even translators to get everything done on the spot. Eventually, she got the visa, but it was stressful and exhausting. Had we double-checked the travel visa requirements earlier, we could have easily avoided all that trouble.

South America Visa – 3-Month Trip
When planning our 3-month trip across South America, we made sure to check visa requirements for every country we might visit — even the ones we didn’t think we’d enter. Since we travel without a fixed plan, this saved us a lot of hassle. Each country has different rules, so knowing them in advance meant we could move freely without worrying about surprises at the border.

Indian e-Visa
The Indian e-Visa is one you can apply for online yourself — but it’s not always as simple as it sounds. Tina applied for it while we were in Bariloche, Argentina, after our South American trip. Between the slow Wi-Fi and the long, confusing application form, it took nearly four hours to complete! We managed to get it in the end, but it taught us a valuable lesson: even an e-Visa requires patience, time, and a stable internet connection.

How to find your Travel Visa Requirements
Check by Yourself
One of the easiest ways to find out if you need a travel visa is to do a quick search on Wikipedia. Simply type in your nationality followed by the word “visa requirements” (for example: French passport visa requirements). You’ll get a clear overview of all the countries you can enter visa-free, with an e-Visa, or with a visa on arrival.
Keep in mind, this will only give you a general idea — visa policies can change frequently. If you’re planning a multi-country trip, take the time to check each destination individually, as well as the neighboring countries. Plans can shift along the way, and you don’t want to find yourself stuck at a border because of an overlooked visa rule.
Use iVisa
Step 1: Check if You Need a Visa with iVisa
The first step before any international trip is to check whether you need a travel visa — and iVisa.com makes that incredibly easy. Their free online tool is one of the most accurate and up-to-date sources for visa information. Simply enter your nationality and destination country, and within seconds, you’ll know:
- If you need a visa or can enter visa-free,
- Whether you can apply for an e-Visa or get one on arrival,
- How long you’re allowed to stay, and
- What documents or requirements you’ll need for entry.
It’s a quick and reliable way to check travel visa requirements without having to dig through confusing embassy websites.
Step 2: Apply for Your Visa Through iVisa
If you do need a visa, you can also apply directly through iVisa. Their team simplifies the entire process — from filling out forms and uploading documents to submitting your application. They review everything for accuracy, so you don’t risk delays or rejection due to small mistakes.
You’ll also see the total cost upfront, including both government and processing fees, so there are no hidden surprises. It’s a perfect solution if you want to avoid the stress of embassy visits or complicated online systems (like our nightmare with the Indian e-Visa!).
