Getting a Sim card in Morocco

In November 2022, we made a 16-day Road trip in Morocco going all around and driving over 2 500 km (in a Fiat 500! What an adventure).

Our trip started and ended in Fes, and we made a loop in order to visit this magnificent country. Our itinerary went through the main cities, the Sahara Desert, the seaside and the mountains of Morocco.

We already had a sim card from Orange as Alex’s brother in law is from Morocco. But when we arrived at the airport we decided to get Tina a sim card as well.

It was just super easy. In this article, we will tell you how to get a sim card in Morocco which is super easy. So, let’s dive in this Getting a Sim card in Morocco in 10min

There are 3 main service providers for sim card in Morocco. Orange, Maroc telecom and Inwi. We personally tried Orange and Maroc telecom. Both were great and had really good coverage all over the country. Even in the most remote area.

Getting the sim card in Morocco Airport

This will be a short article, as to be honest it is super simple. The best way to get a sim card in Morocco is directly at the airport. All the main airports have store that are selling sim card. Mostly you will find them under the name “tabac” which is a tobacco shop.

There just ask for a sim card. Pick the brand you want and the top-up you want. Then the shop keeper will set everything for you.

Our story: As I had orange, Tina took Maroc telecom. It cost 50 dh for the card and dh for the top up 5gb for 1 months. The ladies there were quite rough on Tina’s phone that they deformed the sim card slot, didn’t notice and had to use my phone to activate the sim, as they thought Tina’s phone had a problem. But in the end, all worked well.

Getting the sim card in Morocco city

If you want to get a sim card out of the airport, it is also an easy task. You can again look for “Tabac” or simpler for all those small shops selling convenience stuff and snacks.

To know the brand they are selling, they always have a small board outside the store. The process is the same as the airport. Pick the brand you want and the top-up you want. Then the shop keeper will set everything for you.

Topping up the sim card in Morocco

If you used up all your internet and need more, you can top up your sim card in every city. Again look for “Tabac” or simpler for all those small shops selling convenience stuff and snacks.

Then ask for the top-up you need and the shop keeper will set it up for you.

Final though

After more than 2 weeks in Morocco, we would recommend Maroc telecom Sim card. The reason for that is that if you need to top it up, it is the easiest. All small shop or tobacco shop have Maroc telecom. Orange was already much harder to find.
